The wonderful Smith family. | Cairo, Georgia Family Portraits

August 23rd, 2010 by Carrie Viohl

These are not just regular family portraits.

They are very, very special to me, though they may not look like anything unusual to you.

Let me explain my relationship with the Smiths, and maybe my thoughts will become a little more clear.

In the summer of 2007, I photographed the wedding of one of the prettiest women I’ve ever met, Kelley.   The wedding was gorgeous, and the bride was stunning, but one of the most memorable things about that wedding, to me, was the amazing families of *both* the bride and groom!

Then, almost a year later, I photographed another wedding for the Smith family… this time Lindsay, equally as gorgeous as her sister.  Her beautiful wedding was also filled with amazing people, and their wonderful, gracious families made it a wedding to remember.

And then early this year, Lindsay  gave me the huge honor of photographing her gorgeous newborn baby son, Reed.

So last month, when the Smiths contacted me to let me know that the Lindsay & Kelley’s daddy was once again battling cancer, and that they wanted to have some special portraits made while their beautiful family was whole, I was crushed and honored and desperate to be able to do this small thing for them.

I feel that the Smiths have entrusted some of their most precious moments in life to us, and for them to invite me into their lives again during these precious days, is one of the greatest honors I’ve ever had as a photographer.

If you pray, please send up a special prayer for Marcus Smith.   He is currently in Texas, seeking out options and treatments for the cancer.   I will keep you as updated as I can.

Lindsay, Mike, Kelley, Chris, Mrs. Rita, and Mr. Marcus, thank you.

Creative Expressions Studios | Inspiring Disabled Artists

July 27th, 2010 by Carrie Viohl

Remember my sister who lived in Tanzania earlier this year?

She’s back stateside now, and she’s found a beautiful job, doing art therapy with disabled adults!

I was beyond honored when her studio invited me up to photograph all 80 of their clients!

I have rarely been as inspired, challenged, and thrilled as I was on the day that I spent photographing these people.

I don’t know what I expected when I went in, but what I found is that these people are amazing in every way.

We danced, hugged, and laughed so much that my cheeks hurt from smiling!

In the few hours I was with them, I was amazed by what I learned about the artists.

These are some of things that I think they would want you to know about themselves…

Studio Viohl Skating Party 2010!!

July 12th, 2010 by Carrie Viohl

Last Thursday, we hosted the first annual Studio Viohl Summer Skating Party.

It was our totally free summer celebration for all of our clients & friends on Facebook!

We had Sunshine the Clown there, twisting LOTS of delightful balloon creations for all the kids; and Mrs. Ponda there, painting adorable faces.

But the most fun, for me, was seeing all those little sweeties skating and scooting and dancing all over the skatefloor!

We set up a little mini-shooting area, just to capture some quick shots of as many of the kids as I could grab, and you can see all of those shots, and some candids taken by Phillip & I as well, by clicking on any of these images and going to the online gallery!

Becca at the Farmer’s Market

June 29th, 2010 by Carrie Viohl

My 10 year old, Becca, got into the community spirit this week when she realized that SHE could sell some of her homemade goodies at the new Downtown Farmer’s Market!

She spent two days with her Granny, picking blackberries, blueberries, and apples; and then making homemade Jams, Tarts, Muffins, and other goodies to sell!

She plans to be back for the July markets, and we hope to see lots of other vendors there, too!!

(If you read this before lunch on Saturday, the Market will still be open, in the breezeway until 1:00!)

Inspiration by Google.

June 20th, 2010 by Carrie Viohl

Today is Father’s Day, and the last day of Spring for 2010!

I was thinking this morning about the long, hot Summer ahead of us this year, and really wishing that I could skip ahead to some crisp Autumn color…

So, I turned to my old friend, Google!

I do this an awful lot when I’m in a creative slump, or just needing to get my eyes on fresh ideas quickly.

I always wind up with a new idea, or a new inspiration that I can put to use in my photography!

It’s simply fascinating to me what turns up when you type in an evocative phrase, or even a simple word.

I got my Autumn fix, and the decided to check out all the seasons…

You can click on each of those screen shots, and explore the online seasons a bit yourself! You might just find some inspiration of your own!
