FAQs

  • How do you pronounce Viohl? It’s like this, see: Vee-Ole
  • What are your hours? We are open Monday-Thursday, 10AM-6PM, and on weekends by appointment. MOST Saturdays, we are shooting a wedding, or vegging with our kids, but we are available for portrait sessions on Sundays. NOTE: Sundays sessions book up very quickly, usually 2-3 months out, so if a Sunday is a must, please plan ahead!
  • What should my husband, my baby, my kids, my cat, my dog, and I wear? Excellent questions! We are now scheduling planning sessions so that we can help you choose exactly what to wear and bring for your appointment! That said, here are some general rules: -If one person is wearing light blue, then everybody in the group should be wearing pastel as well. -If one person is wearing deep blue, then everybody else should be wearing deep colors too. Trust me on this one. -White shirts are popular, but please keep in mind that white is not the best color for everybody. -Children who are too young to stand by themselves shouldn’t wear overalls. (The bibs tend to cover their little faces.) -Babies younger than 6 months should wear as little as possible. Clothes can be SO overwhelming for teeny guys!) -I do not recommend dressing your cat. -As long as your dog is relaxed and happy, I am happy!
  • What is the best time of day for outdoor sessions? Beautiful portraits can be made whenever there is ample light, however, I prefer the warm, soft light of the late afternoon. The softer light is also less likely to make you and your family squint. About 1 hour before sunset is often an ideal time of day to begin. Please note that as a general rule, we don't do outdoor afternoon/evening sessions from mid-June through mid-August. If you've ever eaten 10,000 gnats whilst drowning in sweat and turning purple from the heat, then you'll know why we don't. We can arrange to do a session early in the morning, if your family is so inclined.
  • When should I book my newborn’s session? I like to photograph newborns during the second week or earlier. These first few days are so magical and special! There will never be another time in your baby’s life like the first few days! Because of this, we are now setting aside special times each week just for newborn photography. If you are considering having your newborn photographed with us, please call while you are still expecting, and let us know your due date. We know that due-dates are rarely accurate! But, we like to have an idea, so that we can plan for your special delivery. Please call as soon as possible once your baby is born, so that we can schedule your special session! We are happy to photograph your baby in your home, in our studio, or even in the hospital! It is up to you!
  • How far out should I book your services for my wedding? We are now accepting wedding contracts 18 months out or sooner, and we do have several dates still available for 2009 weddings. (And a few dates left in 2008.) If you are wanting our unique, beautiful, and fun photography for your unique, beautiful, and fun wedding day, please give us a call ASAP!
  • How did you get started in photography? My sister and I used to play dress-up, and I always had a old fashioned film SLR pointed at her when we did… When we moved to Germany and had Rebecca, our parents were anxious to see the baby, and at the time, a cheap plastic Digi-Cam did the trick!! That grew into a passion that I couldn’t supress! My training in photography has been almost entirely hands on, but I’m a big reader as well, so I LOVE to read books and magazines and websites about photography.
  • Why were you and Phil in Germany? Did you like it there? Phil was serving in the US Army, and yes, I LOVE Germany. We have AWESOME friends and memories there, and we go back to visit as often as we are able!
  • How long have you been in business? The studio on 4th Ave. in Moultrie opened formally in Feb. of 2006, but I’ve been doing portrait work here in Georgia since the beginning of 2004. I shot my first pro solo wedding in the fall of 2004. We've been in our new location at 25 West Central Ave (On the Square) since April 2008. Do we love it? Yes we do! :)
  • How many weddings have you photographed? As of now, in the middle of 2008, we’ve photographed about 150(ish) weddings. Please don’t ask me exactly how many portrait sessions I’ve shot… it’s… a LOT.
  • I’m getting married outside of Moultrie/Georgia/North America/Earth… can you shoot my wedding?! Sure thing! We are happy to travel for weddings. We treat destination weddings as much more than a one-day event. We’d love to arrive before your wedding day, and even stay after to document your spectacular vacation! Call or email for more info!
  • How old are you guys?! Phil is the oldest, then Haley, then Carrie, then Lindsey, then Renee, then our little baby, Rachel!! (Ok, ok… 29, 29, 29, 27, 26, & 22)
  • I wanna be a photographer!! Help! Photography is insanly fun, but it's not easy, and it's REALLY not an easy way to make a living. Here is what I say... get a film SLR. Learn it inside and out. Learn everything you can about photography. Study the photographs of the greats. Adams, Parks, Mann Brassai, and my personal favorite from the late 19th century, Julia Margaret Cameron... Go to school for it if you are able. Don't jump right in with clients. Learn, learn, learn FIRST.
  • Nitty Gritty Stuff: What is the Metallic Paper? Metallic paper is a shiny, pearlescent paper that is rated to last up to 200+ years. It makes skin look great, and almost has a 3-d effect.
  • Which point-and-shoot camera should I buy? I don’t know. But when I want the facts and figures on a new camera, I go here: http://www.dpreview.com/
  • I wanna be a photographer! With which camera should I start? I suggest getting your hands on any manual film camera. For example, the canon AE-1 was and is a brilliant camera! This camera will help you learn the basics of photography, and will produce gorgeous images on film!
  • Will you photograph my: new invention / rubber chicken / yard sale find for: Ebay / a catalogue / my myspace page? (ETC) Good question! These girls in the office keep me VERY busy with portraits and weddings. I like seeing my kids, so I’m unable to take on product photography of any kind at this time.
  • Where did you get that: prop/chair/backdrop/toy/costume/fabric/neato thing?! I shop at antique stores and yard sales and ebay and pretty much everywhere. If I see something that inspires me, I buy it. But... I really don't remember where everything came from! I would advice for you to look around and find things that inspire you, and suit your style!
  • What kind of packages do you have? We are a high end Boutique Photography Studio and specialize in Wall Portraits and other Heirloom and Specialty products. We have found that packages restrict our clients, so we do not have any. We customize every order to the needs of each family. We have also combined various sizes and types of prints and created several arrangements and artistic groupings that will help you decorate your home. Feel free to stop by the studio anytime and pick up our Mini Inspiration Guide and you can also walk around the gallery and get some ideas on how to really dress up your walls.
